all time favorites

one of the biggest games of the 2010s, and a long time favorite of mine. the portal games were both insanely influential on the internet, and also on me. shoutout.
the puzzles are fun, the storytelling is great, the soundtrack and setting set up a perfect atmosphere, its got everything. also jonathan coultons songs for the credits are crazy good. want you gone remains my top track of all time all because of my insane fixation on portal back in fall 2021. its earned it. also: chell and glados are the dykes of all time. btw

i was first hooked by deltarune while watching my middle school best friend play chapter 1 when it was brand new. i thought 'wow this is awesome', and proceeded to think about it forever. toby foxs writing rides a beautiful line between funny and sincere that can be really hard to balance, but. he pulls it off. hats off to mr fox

its a fun roguelike shooter. i played a ton of it when i first got it, but i still like to do a quick run on occasion. yknow that one tweet where its like 'gamers will say 'i gotta go unwind for a bit' and then boot up some insanely stressful game'? ror2 is like that for me. im looking for a quick game to chill for a little bit? why not boot up the game about being swarmed by creatures for an hour straight. its fun

another roguelike shooter. this ones rhythm based, though. fun. generally based around norse mythology, which. i was never really a norse mythology head but like its a fun vibe. the soundtrack is fun. supposedly you can also import your own music but i havent been able to figure it out lol

an rpg about timeloops ^_^. i encountered this one on tumblr while it was still in development and was like 'oh wow i like timeloops i should check this out'
its got fairly solid characters that carry the game quite a bit. although, the looping aspect of the game gets. repetitive to say the least. its fun, but i would not reccomend to the impatient

hidden gems

a roguelike shooter originally released in 1998 for the sega saturn. it saw rereleases on ps1, ps2, wii, and nintendo switch. the easiest way to play it currently is via emulation, though.
set in a postapocalyptic world in which surviving humans have become twisted manifestations of guilt, you have to navigate various floors of a building known as the nerve tower in order to defeat god in hopes to restore the world. its got a great ambient soundtrack and beautifully gritty visuals
