idk man i just think theyre neat tbh. theyre weird and do their own thing in regards to living. they frequently thrive off of the death of other things. thats badass and i wont stand for any other answer. mushrooms kind of exploded in popularity as like a 'quirky' interest a couple years ago. but im not simply quirky, im downright strange

commonly known as a destroying angel, amanita virosa is found in europe and asia. the common name of destroying angel has also been applied to other species in the amanita genus. its incredibly toxic, and the symptoms only appear after a somewhat significant delay, leading to increased risk of fatality. its often mixed up with edible mushrooms of somewhat similar appearances, such as the puffball.
commonly known as the eastern jack-o-lantern mushroom, its found in eastern north america. it has been noted to have a slight greenish glow when fresh, which can last even 40 to 50 hours after being picked. its most often found at the base of trees and/or on decaying wood. often mistaken for the edible chanterelle, it is actually poisonous.
commonly known as the blue milkcap or blue lactarius. its a widely distributed species, being found in north and central america, and in some parts of eastern asia, although its been most commonly found in the areas surrounding the gulf of mexico. like any other milkcap, the blue milkcap secretes a resinous substance. but the blue milkcap is unique for its bright blue coloration of both its fruiting body and the resin. additionally, the blue milkcap is also edible. you can eat this strange blue beast. awesome
commonly known as pine conk. its a parasitic species that leads to heart rot in many types of conifers across north america, but most commonly in the pacific northwest as the cool wet weather creates prime conditions for it. while it ruins lumber, it has an important role in creating habitat for multiple species
the infamous zombie ant fungus. it infects ants, and is characterized by behavioral shifts in its hosts. the ants leave their nest and find a place with a suitable environment for the fungus to reproduce, where the ant will then latch onto a plant with its mandibles and remain there until death. this fungus has been referenced in multiple pieces of pop culture, and has likely been a major inspiration for a lot of fungus based zombies/mind control/etc
